Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event - 04.25.2013

April 25-28, 2013!The ultimate test of horse and rider! One event, three disciplines, testing the resolve of the timeless partnership between horse and rider, to trot, gallop and soar past anything that stands in their way. DRESSAGE on Thursday and Friday is held in the breath taking outdoor stadium at the Kentucky Horse Park, where spectators enjoy the grace, refined beauty and elegance of dressage as competitors trot their way through the first phase of competition. Dressage, which tests the gaits, suppleness and obedience of the horse through a series of prescribed movements. The Second phase, CROSS-COUNTRY, is the highlight of Eventing. Saturday is the most exciting day of Rolex Kentucky as thousands gather to watch horses and riders gallop over four miles of the challenging terrain, at speeds up to 25 mph, while negotiating remarkable obstacles, water hazards, banks and ditches. The JUMPING TEST, the final phase, brings the energy and precision of jumping back to the outdoor stadium on Sunday. Spectators from across the globe will witness the world’s finest horses and riders test their athletic ability, conditioning and training as they soar over obstacles.

Derby Festival Great Balloon Glimmer--The annual Great Balloon Glimmer will be held on Thursday, April 25th, at Kroger's Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront. The Glimmer is just one of five balloon events being held during the U.S. Bank Great BalloonFest from April 25th- April 27th. The Glimmer is a "mini-glow," which kicks-off a weekend full of ballooning events. Balloons will light up on the Great Lawn of Waterfront Park for opening night of Kroger's Fest-a-Ville and the Chow Wagon, on Thursday, April 25th. 2013 Kentucky Derby - 05.04.2013

Edgewater Resort at Taylorsville Lake is the perfect place to experience The Kentucky Derby and only 30 minutes from Louisville, KY. The Kentucky Derby is a stakes race for three-year-old thoroughbred horses, staged yearly in Louisville, Kentucky on the first Saturday in May, capping the two-week-long Kentucky Derby Festival. The race currently covers one and one-quarter miles (2.012 km) at Churchill Downs; colts and geldings carry 126 pounds (57 kg), fillies 121 pounds (55 kg). The race, known as "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports" for its approximate time length, is the first leg of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing in the United States. It typically draws around 155,000 fans..... The Kentucky Derby is one of the crown jewels of the elusive Triple Crown which includes the Belmont Stakes and the Preakness Stakes.

"This was a random but fortunate location for friends from PA & WI to meet for a week. And what a great week it was! Eight of us enjoyed lots of games, fun at the lake-boating and fishing, day trips to Louisville- Churchill Downs & Slugger Museums, to Frankfort for Kayaking/Tubing, to Mammoth Cave and to Shepherdsville for Go Karts.
